Giving Attention to Our Little Ones

Thankfully, the weather was perfect for a backyard BBQ.  As I looked around at the crowd of parents and young kids I counted heads, but we had invited so many families that I was unsure if all of our guests had arrived.

The adults were knee deep in conversation.  Conversations that weaved around babies on fathers' shoulders and over the heads of mother's preparing food.  Occasionally, the parents would look around for their children, making sure that they were well.
My eyes were lead to the back of the yard to one father who caught my attention.  He was running and playing with the children. He knew all of their names and had asked each of them how their day was going.  He gave the children all of his attention.

This wasn't the first time I had seen this father behave in this manner. He was always to be found playing with the children.  He saw the children from a different perspective than the other adults at our gathering. He saw them as people who needed attention and validation.  Truly, his example of loving care over the children is what our Savior wanted to teach us when he said,
"Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." (Matthew 25: 40)

The attention we give children does not go to waste.  Our loving actions and kind words are cherished by these little ones beyond our understanding.
