Are Your Kids Too Busy?

We live in a world that is very busy and fast paced. Everybody is always on the go but it is important to stop and ask ourselves, how busy are our children?

As parents, we want what is best for our children. Organized activities are a great thing for children in teaching them social skills as well as a higher level of competence in whatever activity they are involved in. However, it is possible to over schedule our children with the number of activities they are enrolled in.

It is important that children still have opportunities for free play and the ability to create their own social environments. As parents, it is important that we find the balance between organized activities and free play.

In addition, there are some warning signs to be aware of in determining whether or not your child feels overwhelmed and is too busy.

It is common for over scheduled children to:

  • feel tired, anxious or depressed
  • complain of headaches or stomachaches which may be a result of stress, missed meals or lack of sleep
  • fall behind in schoolwork
